West Brighton & Hove guide

Events in Hove, Brunswick and the west of the city

Choose between Brunswick, central Hove, Portland Road, Hove Park and the western seafront, with practical notes for plans that stretch beyond Brighton centre.

Before you choose an event

Hove is not simply the quieter half of a Brighton trip. The seafront, Church Road, George Street, Portland Road, Hove Park and Hove Lagoon support different kinds of plans, and the distance between them is easy to underestimate when a listing uses ‘Hove’ as its only location.

Use the full venue address before choosing a station or arranging a meeting point. Hove and Aldrington stations serve different parts of the west side, while many east–west bus routes are more useful than returning to Brighton station first.

Brunswick and the Brighton–Hove boundary

Brunswick sits immediately west of central Brighton, close to Western Road and the seafront. It is a sensible choice when one person is coming from Brighton station and another from Hove, or when you want an evening venue without travelling deep into either centre. The squares and side streets also mean a venue may be closer to the seafront than its main-road address suggests.

For a two-stop evening, Brunswick can bridge a Brighton performance and a Hove meal or bar. Check finish times before assuming a quick walk: the east–west distance is manageable, but a late return in bad weather feels very different from a daytime seafront stroll.

Central Hove and the Church Road corridor

Church Road, George Street and the streets around Hove station form the most useful central-Hove cluster for meeting before an event. Listings here may be described as Hove, Palmeira, central Hove or simply BN3. Looking at the postcode and nearest station is more reliable than the label alone.

This part of the city is well suited to talks, comedy, live music, food events and community programming. If a listing ends late, check the return route before you book; rail, bus and taxi options do not all follow the same frequency through the evening.

Portland Road, Aldrington and the lagoon

Further west, Portland Road has its own run of independent businesses and community venues. Aldrington station can be more convenient than Hove station for this area, while Hove Lagoon and the western seafront are better understood as a separate outdoor destination than as an extension of central Hove.

Allow extra time when moving between an inland venue and the beach. For family activities or waterside events, confirm the exact meeting point, age guidance and weather policy. Outdoor organisers may use a landmark, lawn or promenade section rather than a conventional postal entrance.

Hove Park, Portslade and neighbourhood events

Hove Park, Hangleton, Mile Oak and Portslade are residential areas with useful local programming that can be missed by a city-centre-only search. They are often best for classes, sport, family sessions, school or community events and repeat activities rather than a one-off central night out.

Use the neighbourhood filter when you want something close to home, then verify the bus stop or parking information against the full address. A venue described as Portslade may be near Portslade station, Old Village or much further north, so the area name alone is not enough for travel planning.

Practical checks

Choose the right station

Brighton, Hove, Aldrington, Portslade and Fishersgate serve different parts of the west side. Use the venue postcode rather than defaulting to Brighton station.

Use the east–west bus routes

Many cross-city buses make a direct journey more practical than changing trains or walking back through central Brighton.

Treat the seafront separately

Hove Lawns, the lagoon and inland Hove are not one venue cluster. Confirm the entrance, promenade level and weather arrangements.

Official planning sources

We use official visitor and council information for the city context in this guide. Event times, entry arrangements and cancellations still come from the organiser, so check the individual listing before travelling.
